About this speaker

Jose Olivera is a full-time undergraduate student at Texas A&M University-Commerce, majoring in social work. After working numerous jobs with no professional and personal growth, Jose found himself at a dead end with no sense of direction. Jose worked for the United States Department of Health and Human Services, where he discovered his passion for helping people. As a young first-generational Hispanic male, Jose has always wanted to make a progressive, positive change within society. Being able to use his skills and knowledge to advocate and empower others is a strong belief that Jose upholds. He firmly believes that change can occur on a macro level, and being embedded in that change is exciting. Jose's top priority is sharing that vision with others; starting with the first generation is the pathway to systemic change. Jose’s most significant accomplishment is helping his family open an authentic Taco Truck business in East Texas. His hobbies include traveling, music festivals, and outdoor adventure. Jose’s source of motivation and drive comes from his favorite quote from Steve Jobs, “stay hungry, stay foolish”!
