About this speaker
Teresa Fernandez is an undergraduate student at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke majoring in Exercise Sports Science with a concentration in Health Promotion. She is a 2023-2024 Pembroke Mellon REACH Fellow, conducting research in humanities. She currently serves as a chair on the executive team of her universities Student Government Association and works to improve student life on campus and is working with the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs on "The Wellness Initiative". In 2022, she was a recipient of the "Senator of the Year" award at the annual student leadership banquet, highlighting her accomplishment in creating the "The Child Care Act", an act created to provide childcare on her universities campus to parenting students, staff, and faculty. Her goal is to work in public health, specifically community health and improve health literacy within the Hispanic/Latiné community.
