Oral Histories on the Quality of Life of 1st and 2nd Generation Latino’s in the United States (Malloy 202)

A workshop by Teresa Fernandez (Undergrad Student, UNC-Pembroke, Mellon REACH Program)

About this Workshop

This project will present a series of life history interviews with 1st and 2nd generation Latinos . I will be interviewing 1st (and “1 ½” ) and 2nd generation Latinos to collect their stories of acculturation and how their life has been either as an immigrant or child of an immigrant. Methods of data collection would also include collecting pictures, letters, other so far unforeseen useful documents that can be added to my collection. These will show the importance in learning about myths and stereotypes and seeing how it affects the Latino community with acculturation, assimilation, and quality of life. Also, not just seeing how they live but also seeing what is perceived to be different in different regions of the country. Latinos tend to do better in communities where there seems to be a more concentrated Latino population (Abraído-Lanza et al, 2016.)
